FAQ

Questions about patios & pavers

Pavers, poured concrete, or stamped concrete: which is better for a patio?
Pavers flex with the ground so they do not crack, and any section is repairable. Poured concrete cracks over time, and stamped concrete is the hardest to fix. For our wet-coast freeze-thaw, a paver patio on a proper base is the most durable and the easiest to maintain.
What does a paver patio cost in Nanaimo?
It depends on the size, the paver you choose, and the base and site work involved. We measure on a free site visit and give you a detailed written estimate so there are no surprises.
How long does it take, and how far ahead should I book for summer?
Most patios take a few days to about a week on site. Summer is the busy season on Vancouver Island, so book in late winter or early spring to lock in a summer build date.
How do you prep the base so it does not settle?
We excavate to depth, compact crushed gravel in lifts, screed a bedding layer, set the pavers, lock the perimeter with edge restraint, do a final compaction, and sweep in joint sand. That base is why a proper paver patio stays flat instead of heaving.
Do pavers handle drainage, and can you slope for runoff?
Yes. We build deliberate slope so water sheds away from the house, and the gravel base drains. We can also tie the patio into proper site drainage where needed.
Do you build paver walkways and driveways too?
Yes. Walkways and driveways are the same craft as a patio; driveways just use a thicker base and heavier-rated pavers to carry vehicle weight.
